Fixing Migration Issues

This was a very slow weekend unfortunately. Many real life events (some good, some bad) combined together to  rob me off most of my weekend. The bad news is that the next few of weekends are going to be pretty much similar since some of the things that happened might take a month or two to fully resolve. The good news is that a few of those things, once completed, will leave me in a much better position than I was a month ago, and hopefully that will translate into more stress-free time to work on the game.

Regardless, I did get some work done over the weekend. I mostly had to deal with some issues generated by some changes I made during the week: The populations migrate much more slowly than before, and they would also try to colonize rivers, which unfortunately would crash the game. I fixed the crashing issue by preventing populations from settling within rivers for now (in a future update I might add mechanisms to settle over shallow waters).

I also improved migration speed a little bit, but populations still migrate at a snail pace. This is due mostly to population groups now trying to generate many more migration attempts than before, most of which have near zero chance of succeeding. This combined situation slows the simulation quite a bit. So I need to deal with both things by reducing the number of events generated, and make them fail less frequently. All of this will require a lot experimentation to get right. But hopefully I can get the migrations to happen as fast as before or faster.

So next weekend I'll continue with the migration tweaks and the implementation of tribal migration. As I said, this is going to take a while, but progress will continue to be made.

So when do you think the game will be mostly done?

Honestly, it will take years to complete. There are many, many features I want to add.
