A Change of Plans

After another two very chaotic weekends I finally managed to get the clan tribe switching event decisions to (mostly) work. There's still one crash I have to look at but I hope it will be the last one. And hopefully I will be able to start working on the player actions that will complement this feature.

Here is a very long gif showcasing how tribe territories evolve over time using the new events/decisions, with some tribes snatching entire clans from others over the course of it:

The behavior is very unbalanced, but I could spend months just tweaking things to make them more interesting. So I have decided not to spend any more time on that. This release has been delayed for far too long already. Speaking of which, It is time to make some hard choices...

I decided I will push the last feature for 0.3.4 to the next version (0.3.5) and ship this version as soon as I finish the work on tribal aggression and modding. I also decided to push the implementation of the warfare knowledge to a future version. I know this will be a bummer for many, but I came to the realization that implementing warfare would be an entire feature of its own and I don't want to spend another 3 months just making a half-assed implementation that will please nobody, including myself.

So, the last two things I will work on to complete the next version are, implementing the player actions that mirror the event/decisions implemented so far, and converting all the discovery events from the previous release to the new modding system. All of this will probably take me another two or three months at my current work rate. Which means I might be able to release 0.3.4 before the end of the year. Regardless, I will likely set another close alpha testing period in a month or so as soon as I'm finished with the player actions.

One last thing. I'll probably switch to a by-weekly schedule for dev progress updates from now own. It has been very hard to come up with things to talk about the last few weeks since there are weekends that are miserably fully spent just debugging my own spaghetti code. My hope is that by posting every two weeks I will have more exciting things to talk about on each post. In any case, if I manage to generate something cool between dev progress updates I will make sure to let you know!

This is really disappointing, but you are right, it is necessary to finish what was planned, and it is no longer possible to postpone the release of the version. Looking forward to 0.3.5

 Good luck.
